Vaughn Gittin Jr. Wins D1 Grand Prix 2007 World All-Star Championship with Hasselgren Powered Mustang

Irwindale Speedway, California – With the world's best drifters in attendance this weekend Gittin got it done and won the overall championship, "Thanks to Hasselgren for the amazing reliable motor. The confidence I have in their motor allows me to keep my foot on the floor and keep my V8 screaming at 9000 rpm without any worries. That confidence and reliabilty was without question a huge reason why the Team Falken Tire Mustang was able to endure the abusive day and win the D1GP world championship!"

For the past few seasons Hasselgren has been making headway into the world of drifting, and Gittin's win here proves once again that Hasselgren can be competitive in any arena.

Vaughn Gittin Jr. gives motor problems the backhand and runs away with 2nd place!

MONROE, Washington – In the midst of all his excitement, Vaughn Gittin Jr. was under immense pressure for Formula Drift Round Four at Evergreen Speedway. Taking into account the motor issues that JR and his team had been tackling the past couple of events, JR wanted to start with a clean slate and get back in the game.

Falken Tire and Streetwise decided to have Hasselgren of Northern California build the Mustang a new motor that would be able to hold strong under JR’s heavy foot. JR describes, “It’s a 4.6 liter V8 that was stroked to a 5-liter. It has individual throttle bodies, custom cams, a dry sump oil system and it puts out about 650 horsepower and 550 pounds of torque to the wheel – and the engine screams to 8,500 rpms.”

“I really need to thank Falken Tires whose support for myself, for our team, and for this sport is absolutely unmatched. Without their dedication to keeping me in a solid car, I wouldn’t be able to get out there and battle with the best. I also need to thank Doug from Streetwise, and also Kevin and Paul from Hasselgren for working nonstop to keep a car under me.  I would also like to thank the guys from Ford Racing who lent the Mustang a tie rod so we could carry on into the Final Four.”

With a solid motor in the Mustang and JR’s spirits high, it will be exciting to see what happens at Infineon Raceway for Round Five. JR plans to bring his “A-game” to the next three events and hopefully finish in the top three overall.  “It’s been a rough couple of last events for sure,” says JR, “but as far as I’m concerned, this is only the beginning.”
